Add Natural Forms from SculptGL to Tinkercad!
Tinkercad is a wonderful tool for students (and teachers) of all ages to learn about digital modelling and 3D design. Tinkercad mostly offers simple, geometric forms, and that makes it easy to dive into creating. But, it can be a tedious process to come up with just the right combination of shapes to create a natural form, like an animal or plant.
That's where SculptGL comes in! It's a powerful, FREE sculpting tool that is totally online. You sculpt with your mouse to push, pull, and poke a blob of digital clay. Download your creation as an .STL or .OBJ, and import the file into Tinkercad!
SculptGL is perfect for students to use with Chromebooks, and it plays very nicely with Tinkercad. Once your sculpture file has uploaded to Tinkercad, it can be edited just like any other form (size, rotation, color, etc.).
I used Tinkercad + SculptGL to create this example model of an animal cell.
More ways to use SculptGL with Tinkercad:
- Sculpt complex features like nose, ears, hands and head of a character, then build the body in Tinkercad
- Sculpt natural objects like rocks, plants, and clouds to add to a scene built in Tinkercad
- Sculpt creatures, flowers, gargoyles, and animals then add to a Tinkercad building as decoration
How can you use this with your students?
